Scroll down to find other fun food sites - from the late, great Julia Child, to Christina Cooks, and Lydia. There are some great resources below, so have fun!  And if you have a favorite food site, send it off to us!

Amazon

Always a great place to start! From coffees and teas to baskets galore! There are so many options you may find you have to go back time and time again! Mangia!

Happy hal's Jalapeno RelishThis has to be one of the best new products to come down the pike in a while! http://www.happyjalapenos.com. Check them out right now!

All Things SicilianThis place has some really fun food, great pottery and platters, and really nice folks working there.  We visited the Peabody, MA store while visiting our friend Dorrie, and bought some really neat things - some yummy jams, a Limoncello service for six... a platter... you get the picture...

Julia ChildAh... Julia Child.  She was the greatest no doubt about it! This is on the PBS web site and it has videos of her last 4 series!  Alas, the original "French Chef" series isn't included, but a lot is! Fun and informative!

Christina Cooks

Definitely one of the better shows to watch, and her recipes are just flat-out fun! Quality, natural ingredients - what a concept!

Lidia

And speaking of cookbooks, we've both been having fun with Lidia's Italian Table (Lidia Matticchio Bastianich) and her book, Lidia's Italian-American Table (we have an autographed copy!!!)  AND La Cucina Di Lidia, and Lidia's Family Table, too! We both love her simple use of a few great ingredients to create remarkable meals. Check out her website at http://www.lidiasitaly.com/  The recipes are great!!! Her restaurant Felidia in NYC is fantastic!!!  YUM!!!

SF HerbOne of our most favorite places to visit (and one of life's guilty little pleasures!!) has always been The San Francisco Herb Company in   San Francisco. We'd browse the store for hours picking out the best herbs and spices around!  After moving east and needing to set up a new kitchen, I went online and found their sister store The Atlantic Spice Company in Massachusetts!  Same great quality, same great selection, same great service!  I place an order once or twice a year and within a couple of days, the best stuff is delivered to my door!

FantesFante's has to be just about my most favorite cooking store! It's a no-nonsense , no-frills place to find great products at great prices. We have shopped there many, many times, and their mail order/web order is great! Products arrive when they say they will in the condition they should be in!

SOARA great source for recipes of all sorts. Search for a bazillion different variuations on a theme. It's a great place tojust look for ideas, too.

A great place to start is with "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture.

Next stop is how to read a Nutritional Analysis Label.  Good luck.

Food PyramidAnd then stop off and read about the new Food Guide Pyramid and what it means at www.MyPyramid.gov It's an interesting approach, but it would be nice if they told you which foods are actually unhealthy for you, and to avoid.  Sadly, politics plays into nutrition, and there's a lot of money to be made from partially-hydrogenated fats and high fructose corn syrup.But... it does have some good information...

Weight Loss TipsHere's a fun site!  Loaded with some fun tips.  There *is* humor in trying to lose weight, and this site provides some common-sense information with a few laughs thrown in!Good stuff!!

UCSF

Tim was on staff of the UCSF Department of Nutrition and Dietetics (It's now Nutrition and Food Services!) for almost 9 years. He also was webmaster for their first web site!  Check it out - there are some great links as well as great information here!

SOARA GREAT cookbook, written by Christine Leishman, who was Menu and Recipe Coordinator at UCSF, is now on our site!  It's full of low-fat 'heart-healthy' recipes that actually have flavor and taste GREAT!  Check it out!

And then check out the Nutrition Analysis Tool to see the nutritional analysis of what you're eating!

Mayo ClinicThe Mayo Clinic - they don't have a special diet plan out there - no matter what that email says!  This link goes directly to their "fad diets" page.  Check out the rest of the site - it's fascinating information!

Diet Information offers "sensible advice on diet, weight loss, and nutrition."  They explain the dangers and myths behind fad diets - including the no-carb diets, celebrity diets, etc.  Definitely a worthwhile web site!

NAHFrom the Center For Science In The Public Interest.  This site offers some very valuable information on what it is we're eating. Just remember that everyone has an agenda, and not all 'truths' are equal.

Diverticulosis - a word we had never heard of two years ago, is a condition that affects about half of all adults between 60 and 80, and virtually all adults 80 and over.  It seems it can also affect those of us under 50, as well. Here are some great links to help you understand what diverticulosis is, and some preventative measures.

Med LibraryThe US National Library of Medicine is an online resource for virtually everything!

CDC The Center for Disease Control has excellent information on a variety of topics, from AIDS to Zoonotic Diseases.  Check out their "Hoaxes and Rumors" link!

The NPH site is special places for us.  Tim's mom passed away from Normal Pressure Hydocephalus in October of 2001

. NPH

Check out their website - it's well worth the visit!!

FDA

And Lots of information here! Sadly, they're both also very political. One needs to be able to read between the lines and remember not to take information as absolute truth in every case. The food and drug lobbies are very powerful and have a tradition of manipulating data and MedWatchinformation to serve their own agandas. Caveat emptor.
